چکیده

Recent efforts to classify subtypes of major depressive disorder marked by different psychophysiological indicators have identified blunted reward-related brain activation in gambling tasks as a characteristic linked specifically depressed participants with impaired mood reactivity. The current study compared individuals diagnosed (n = 26) healthy controls 24) regarding responses gain and loss trials an fMRI version the “Doors” choice-feedback task. Study aims were examine relation depression, subtypes, course depression. Across sample, showed significant response versus left right ventral striatum well medial lateral prefrontal cortex. Relative controls, depression characterized reactivity striatum. Furthermore, differentiated subgroups without Finally, striatal hypoactivation reward predicted remission when controlling for symptomatology, albeit at trend level. Blunted might be useful marker subtype may potential predict future

Ventral striatal activation during reward anticipation correlates with impulsivity in alcoholics.

BACKGROUND Alcohol dependence is often associated with impulsivity, which may be correlated with dysfunction of the brain reward system. We explored whether functional brain activation during anticipation of incentive stimuli is associated with impulsiveness in detoxified alcoholics and healthy control subjects. METHODS Nineteen detoxified male alcoholics and 19 age-matched healthy men partic...

Ventral striatal activation during reward processing in subjects with ultra-high risk for schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND Early dysfunction of the brain reward system in schizophrenia might be already recognized in the prodromal phase of this illness. We used functional magnetic resonance imaging to assess the blood oxygen level-dependent response in the ventral striatum (VS) of subjects with ultra-high risk for psychosis during the presentation of reward-indicating and loss-indicating stimuli. METHOD...

Dopaminergic Enhancement of Striatal Response to Reward in Major Depression.

OBJECTIVE Major depressive disorder is characterized by reduced reward-related striatal activation and dysfunctional reward learning, putatively reflecting decreased dopaminergic signaling. The goal of this study was to test whether a pharmacological challenge designed to facilitate dopaminergic transmission can enhance striatal responses to reward and improve reward learning in depressed indiv...

Ventral Striatal Activation During Reward Processing in Psychosis: A Neurofunctional Meta-Analysis.

IMPORTANCE Abnormal reward processing is suggested to underlie the formation of psychotic symptoms, likely driven by elevated ventral striatal (VS) dopamine levels. Functional magnetic resonance imaging studies reveal alterations of VS activity during reward processing in patients with chronic psychosis and first episode of psychosis, as well as individuals at high risk for psychosis, but findi...

Major depression in mothers predicts reduced ventral striatum activation in adolescent female offspring with and without depression.

Prior research has identified reduced reward-related brain activation as a promising endophenotype for the early identification of adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD). However, it is unclear whether reduced reward-related brain activation constitutes a true vulnerability for MDD. One way of studying vulnerability is through a high-risk design. Therefore, the aim of the current stud...
